The following is a summary of your responsibilities in relation to the Academic Honor code as a student.
As a student of Brookdale Community College you have certain responsibilities:
1. Have total academic honesty.
2. Refuse to tolerate violations of academic honesty.
3. Support and promote a high sense of integrity and social responsibility on the part of the
College community.
4. Report any suspected violations of the Honor Code that come to your attention.
Because BCC believes that there is a direct link between behavior within the university and within society as a whole, academic honesty will be strictly enforced. This means that if you wish to continue as a student at BCC, you will not cheat in any way, or help anyone else to cheat.
Cheating includes the following:
1. Getting unauthorized help during examinations.
2. Copying work from other students at any time. If you have any doubts as to whether an assignment is an individual or group assignment, you should check with your instructor. Ignorance will not be accepted as an excuse.
3. Not producing original work when required and passing off other people's work as your own. THIS INCLUDES COPYING FROM INTERNET SOURCES without showing clearly what was copied, and from where.
You are also expected to behave correctly within the College at all times.
This means:
1. You will arrive on time for classes, and not walk in and out of classes without permission.
2. You will restrain from disruptive behavior, such as talking or allowing your cell phone to ring.
3. You will treat all members of the College community with respect.
4. You will be aware of the attendance requirements of each class, which will be strictly enforced. In any case, no student can pass a course having missed more than one third of the classes.
Instructors will impose penalties for breaching of the above rules.
These may include:
1. The suspension of your rights to participate in a class.
2. A failing grade in an assignment or examination.
3. A failing grade in a course.
4. A referral to the Director and Academic Standards Committee including, in appropriate cases, a recommendation that you be removed from the College.
